FAQ

Q. So your Galleries are for sale now. Weren’t they free originally?
A. Yes and Yes, for over 2 years now. The reason for the change is to protect my own interests and to protect you. For example, how would you feel if you appeared on a flyer or on advertising material that you didn’t know about? Pretty rough right? Downright rude if you ask me. You’d want a piece of the action if someone was making money off your likeness right? That’s where model releases come in.

Q. What’s a Model release?
A. Thought that would be the next question.
A model release, known in similar contexts as a liability waiver, is a legal release typically signed by the subject of a photograph granting permission to publish the photograph in one form or another. The legal rights of the signatories in reference to the material is thereafter subject to the allowances and restrictions stated in the release, and also possibly in exchange for compensation paid to the photographed.
Q. Do you supply releases with your images?
A. Model and Property releases are not supplied and will need to be arranged if required.

Why?

Any release I provide might not cover all of the possible eventualities that an image could be used for. A model/property release may be provided by the purchasing agency or publisher to suit their needs. Sometimes models have their own releases too.

Please note that images for commercial use that contain obvious branding (such as ‘Pioneer’ for CDJ’s/Mixers or ‘Technics’ for Turntables) may need to have this branding removed prior to use if the image is to remain intact fully. I am not responsible for how my images are used, so remember to remove any branding so you don’t create an association between yourself and the brand that would leave you open to legal action (say for example Pioneer chooses to sue you for damaging the brand’s image). For more info, see the Terms and Conditions page.

Here’s a general idea though:

Q. What’s a Property release?
A. Similar to a model release, but for the venue. This allows for a building or venue to be published for commercial use. DJ’s would not require a model release for themselves however may require a venue release from the property owner.

Q. Are images in the Photoshoots section for sale?
A. No. Contact me if you want to use any of these shots Commercially (and you’re not the model, obviously).

Q. What do I get when I purchase an image?
A. I offer two types of digital downloads:

1) An ‘Editorial’ version in JPEG format, sized 900×600 at 72ppi. This is perfect for Facebook, DJ Press kits, mixes.djfez.com album covers or any other web use. Not so good for printing as the lower ppi (pixels per inch) makes for a lower resolution printout. Remember that Editorial images aren’t for commercial use! These shots look great on a computer screen where the lower ppi isn’t so much of a factor that affects quality.

2) A ‘Commercial’ version in hi-res JPEG format, sized 3602×2401 at 300ppi. This is perfect for Web Designers, Flyers and other advertising material (like magazine articles that need the higher resolution) or for printing out and hanging on your wall at a standard size of 8″ x 12″ (also known as “20 × 30cm”) at excellent quality. You can also use a Commercially licensed shot for personal use if you like. Please note that I do not sell prints directly as I would need releases. I am not responsible for how my images are used.

Q: How do I buy?
A: From the dropdown boxes underneath each image, select the license type that you want and click ‘Add to Cart’. You’ll then be taken to the checkout at the bottom of the gallery’s page. Clicking the Paypal checkout button takes you through to Paypal’s secure payment site to complete the transaction. You’ll then be redirected back to a page here at AXL Imaging where you’ll find a link to download the image. An email will also be sent to you in case you have troubles with the download (for example, your work proxy might block downloads of image files).

Q: Do you offer refunds?
A: Yes, of course, if you’re not happy and all reasonable attempts have been made to settle the dispute then I’ll happily refund you the price of the image. You’ll be required to destroy the image and you’ll also be giving up any right to use of that image after the refund.

Q: I don’t like how you’ve processed an image, or I’d like to see that shot in black and white. Can you do this for me?
A: Sure, just shoot me a quick email via the front page contact form or email me direct at alex[[AT]]axlimaging.com.au (take that, email harvester bots!) for any custom requests

Q: I’m a DJ, why should I let you photograph and sell pics of me?
A: Good question, here’s why:

1) Increased exposure for you as a DJ – Wallpapers/prints as merchandise, pics for magazine bios/interviews at your fingertips.

2) Low cost of high quality promotional material – not everyone can afford a professional photo-shoot. Press kits/pics for promoters and the media can be supplied straight away as you’ll already have a great collection of images on hand. You’ll be viewed as the professional artist you deserve to be. A good press kit can be the difference between your next demo being heard – or tossed.

3) Instant delivery of digital products. No need to wait for a CD in the mail or for a print run.

4) Allow your fans to get up and close you, show them what it’s like to play to a huge crowd. Think of how good it feels when you’ve got a packed floor – people will see your face, remember your music and associate you with a great night out. And that’s a good thing.

5) Established DJ’s need great pics too! Any avenue for getting your name out there is an opportunity worth taking.

Q: I have another query or I have a problem that isn’t listed here. Can you help?
A: Sure, just shoot me a quick email via the front page contact form or email me direct at alex[[AT]]axlimaging.com.au (take that, email harvester bots!)
